The US Constitution
This is how Mr. Johnson had to learn about the Constitution back in the 70's!
The Bill of Rights in common terms
1st- Freedom of Religion, speech, to assemble peacefully, freedom of the press
2nd- Freedom to have a militia and to bear arms
3rd- No soldier can be kept in someone’s home without their consent
4th- Cannot be searched without a warrant
5th- No “double jeopardy”, serious crime = jury trial, eminent domain, do not have to give evidence against yourself ( “I plead the fifth”)
6th- Right to a speedy trial in the state where the crime was committed, right to a lawyer , right to know what you are being accused of
7th Everyone entitled to a jury trial when a civil case is large enough to warrant it (small money cases can go to a “judge Judy”)
8th No excessive bail or cruel and unusual punishment
9th Since all rights cannot be listed in the Constitution, the Con. cannot be used to deny those rights that are not listed
10th- The powers not given by the Constitution to the central government and not prohibited to the states are given to the states.
